India’s Competition Commission Urges AI Industry Self-Audits to Prevent Market Distortions

India’s Competition Authority urges AI sector accountability as Bihar’s voter rolls undergo major cleansing

On October 6, 2025, India witnessed significant developments across technology governance and electoral reforms. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) stepped forward with a strong recommendation for the artificial intelligence sector to embrace self-governance, including voluntary self-audits. This appeal comes amid rising concerns over potential collusion and monopolistic practices within the rapidly growing AI industry, aimed at fostering fairness and integrity.

In a parallel administrative move, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar disclosed that the recent revision of Bihar’s electoral rolls involved removing not only deceased or relocated voters but also foreign nationals previously listed. Although the exact count of foreigners excluded remains undisclosed, Kumar assured the electorate that the lists have been meticulously refined to preserve electoral credibility.

On the diplomatic front, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar acknowledged ongoing negotiations with the United States for a mutually acceptable trade pact. He emphasized that while discussions continue, both countries have yet to identify a common ground that respects India’s essential conditions and red lines.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court registered a plea by Gitanjali Angmo, spouse of detained Ladakh-based activist Sonam Wangchuk, who challenged allegations linking him to foreign adversaries. Angmo described the charges as unfounded and part of a deliberate strategy to undermine his non-violent environmental advocacy aimed at protecting Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem.

These developments collectively highlight India’s multifaceted focus on enhancing regulatory frameworks, securing democratic processes, navigating complex international trade discussions, and ensuring justice in activism-related disputes.
